The  Baltic Sea, one of the largest  brackish seas in the world. The water is a mixture of fresh and salt waters, but only about 35% as salty as the ocean. The Baltic waters are  so murky that divers cannot
see more than a few feet. The basin between Sweden and Finland was formed by glacial erosion. The Baltic Sea is about 1,600 kilometers (1,000 miles) long and averages 193 kilometers (120 miles) wide, with depths ranging from 55 meters (180 feet) to the maximum depth of 459 meters (1,506 feet).

June 28, 2012  Stockholm, Sweden - Two long-time divers who joined together in the mid-1990s to hunt for sunken treasure in shipwrecks at the bottom of the Baltic are Peter Lindberg and Dennis Asberg. They are co-owners of Sweden Ocean Explorer, a Stockholm company devoted to searching for sunken shipwrecks and treasure, who call themselves the Ocean X Team.

On June 1, 2012, the Explorer X team  set off on its second investigation of a 197-foot-diameter (60 meters) unidentified structure that is 275 feet down on the floor of the Baltic Sea some 60 nautical miles from nearest land between Sweden and Finland. First discovered on June 19, 2011, on the last day of a treasure hunting expedition to find sunken wrecks, a second smaller anomaly  was also found 600 feet away. A few more puzzling details were seen this time on BlueView and Multibeam sonar before the team decided it was safe to send two divers down for a closer look. Peter Lindberg now compares the larger object to a concrete structure with 90-degree lines, vertical surfaces and is sitting on a smaller structure so it “looks like a champagne cork.”

When Peter Lindberg and I recorded our interview on June 20th for Earthfiles and Coast to Coast AM, I did not have the so-called "fireplace circle of stones" image in front of me that Peter describes as being 25 to 30 stones tightly arranged in a 3-foot-diameter circle photographed by one of the divers on the right side of the larger circular object. However, in the stone ring image now included in this report, the anomaly is more a loose ring-like arrangement of rocks.

Interview:

Peter Lindberg, Co-Owner, Ocean Explorer, Stockholm, Sweden: “We have very sophisticated sonar on the remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) and we could see it was just very straight angles, lines and walls. Everything is in 90 degrees. So on this circular object, there are a lot of these straight lines and box-shaped things. We were using BlueView sonar above the large object, but it wouldn't work properly and we had to shut it off. That's why we don't have all the Blue View sonar data that we had hoped to have. We don't know why. A few days later in another undersea wreck project, the same sonar worked fall the time without any problem.

Peter Lindberg about this BlueView sonar sends out its beams in fan shape
“We see a lot of these odd rectangular boxes with straight lines in the big circle object. The lower part of the sonar fan is right in front of the ROV looking at the surface  of the circle object and the dark rectangle is a shadow where the beams do not hit anything. The rectangular-shaped walls are part of the circular object as you can see in our side scan sonar image from a year ago on June 19, 2011 (above). ”

And when we came close enough to see it through the video camera, our first reaction was that it was concrete. We have been working as commercial divers for many years and we have worked with concrete under water. It looks like a bridge foundation or something.

A CONCRETE STRUCTURE?

Yeah, I don’t say it is, but it looks like it and we sent the divers down and we gathered some bottled samples to make sure about radiation. It was 20 times higher than normal, but it’s no danger in any way.

QUESTION IS – WHAT WOULD MAKE IT RADIOACTIVE EVEN A TINY BIT?

The Sea of Bothnia is one of the most radiated oceans in the world because of the Chernobyl accident in 1986.
[ Editor's Note:  Gulf of Bothnia  is the northernmost arm of the Baltic Sea between Finland's west coast and Sweden's east coast.]

We sent our divers down with a camera. When they returned to the surface, they were quite amazed. One of the divers had more than 6,000 dives. And he said this is the most amazing dive he had done ever.

COULD YOU GIVE AS MANY DETAILS AS POSSIBLE FROM THE DIVERS ABOUT WHAT IT WAS THEY WERE SEEING AND EXPERIENCING THAT MADE THE DIVER TELL YOU HE HAD NEVER DIVED IN ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE?

They had never dived on such a large object with these straight lines and this smooth surface. It looks like it was constructed in some way.

DO YOU MEAN THAT HE IS DESCRIBING STRUCTURES THAT ARE NOT NORMALLY FOUND IN NATURE  - ESPECIALLY IF THERE ARE A LOT OF 90-DEGREE ANGLES AND STRAIGHT WALLS?

Some parts look very smooth like it has been grinded by the ice from 10,000 years ago. But at the same time, there are these very straight lines and angles and everything. Also, the divers were swimming slowly over the large circular object and suddenly passed over a ring of stones, like a small Stone Age fireplace, on the right side.

ON TOP OF THE ROUND STRUCTURE?
On the structure, there is a circle of stones and there are photographs of it.

CAN YOU DISCUSS THE CIRCLE OF STONES THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DIVER?
The diver said that they were swimming very slowly over the object and suddenly it passed over this ring of stones. He said, ‘I must stop there and photograph because it looks very, very strange and unique.’

THE DIVERS ARE DESCRIBING A CIRCLE OF STONES – COULD YOU GIVE THE DISTANCE BETWEEN EACH STONE APPROXIMATELY?
The  (grey-colored on sonar) circle of stones looks like a small fireplace.

SO THERE IS NO SPACE BETWEEN EACH STONE?
They are lying side-by-side in a ring.

HOW MANY STONES ARE IN THE RING?
25 or 30 stones.

WHAT WOULD YOU ESTIMATE IS THE DIAMETER OF THE CIRCLE OF STONES?
Like a meter in diameter – 3 feet diameter.

SO IT’S A SMALL CIRCLE OF  STONES.
Yeah, this ‘fireplace’ ring of stones are laying on top of the circular object. The circular object is 60 meters approximately (in diameter) – 180 feet across. And that object seems to be standing on the pillar, which we know is made of some kind of stone.

OH, THE WHOLE 197-FOOT-DIAMETER  CIRCULAR OBJECT APPEARS TO BE LIFTED OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE BALTIC SEA BY SOME SORT OF PILLAR?
Yeah, it looks like a champagne cork. So the pillar has a smaller diameter than the circular object. It looks very strange on the sonar images.

Another Odd Object Atop Large Circular Structure

Peter Lindberg:  “In our 2011 sonar image right above the circular large object,
you can see a small bump or circle in the upper right (image below highlighted by
white arrow.) The June 2012 large color image was taken by a diver of what he said
looked like solidified ‘meringue’ at the same spot on the surface of the larger circle
object. The 'meringue' is about 27 feet in diameter and about 5 feet at the highest
point. The thin white arc is the downline rope so divers can find their way back
to the boat.” Image © 2012 by Ocean Explorer X-Team, Stockholm, Sweden.

Sea expedition. Image © 2011 by Ocean Explorer X-Team, Stockholm, Sweden.

Black “Stones” Mystery
We have also found black “stones” on the circular object that has no silt on them and we don’t understand why because nearby there are stones covered with silt.

SOMETHING MIGHT BE COMING FROM THE BLACK STONES ON THIS MYSTERIOUS OBJECT THAT ARE SOME HOW REPELLING THE SILT?
Maybe. I don’t know. It’s kind of a black powder. We brought up two black stone samples and they are at the lab for testing.

WHAT DID YOUR DIVER SAY TO YOU IN DETAILS WHEN HE TALKED TO YOU ABOUT WHAT HE AND THE OTHER DIVERS SAW?
The surface of the (large, circular) object – some places it has cracks one or two inches wide. And through these cracks, it looks like something has poured out like magma maybe. If the magma had come out before the ice age, it should have been scraped away by the ice. But now it’s there like it poured out yesterday. So maybe it’s volcanic activities in the area?
Another thing is that the circular object is standing on the stone pillar and the stone pillar raises about 8 meters (26 feet) above the bottom. We don’t know yet if the stone circle object (small ‘fireplace’ ring of stones) and the stone pillar are the same – if they are fixed together – or if they are separated. The next expedition we will take a look at that as well.

IT SOUNDS LIKE THE POSSIBILITY, HOWEVER, OF SOME KIND OF ARTIFICIAL STRUCTURE BY AN UNKNOWN INTELLIGENCE IS STILL POSSIBLE GIVEN ALL OF THE STRANGE DESCRIPTIONS AS YOU HAVE JUST TOLD ME.
Yeah, absolutely!  I was one of the biggest skeptics about these theories because I was quite prepared that we should find just a stone formation and we could say, ‘OK, it was a stone formation, but it was round and unique.’ But this has raised much more questions than answers. And I haven’t told you everything yet, but I will do that in awhile (laughs). We have found more things that are strange.

LET’S GO ON TO WHAT MORE YOU HAVE FOUND THAT IS STRANGE

ROV video frame taken on June 9, 2012, shows a small hole about
10 inches in diameter. Peter Lundburg: “The divers were going down
to take a sample loose from the surface of the larger circular object. We moved
the downline to a shallower end of the circle and sent an ROV down to look where
we had the downline. That's when the ROV saw the hole, videotaped a few
seconds and we backed off to avoid making visibility murky
for the divers, who could not find the hole again.”
Image © 2012 by Ocean Explorer X-Team, Stockholm, Sweden.

The other thing is that we went down with our ROV first just to see that we had the downline at the right position (the safety rope that connects divers from ship to deeper sea exploration). And when the ROV was coming down, suddenly a round hole appears on the monitor going straight into the (round) structure. We were quite amazed and we took a fast decision to back off with our ROVs so we didn’t disturb the visibility for the divers.
So we have like maybe 8 or 10 seconds of video footage of this hole. But when the diver went down, his camera broke down, so all we have of the hole right now is the few seconds taken from our ROV. It actually looks like something is streaming out of it like water or something. But that can also be because of the propellers on the ROV – we don’t know. That’s also something that has to be investigated on the next expedition. And we don’t know if there are any more holes on the (circular) structure or not.

WHAT DO YOU AND THE DIVERS ESTIMATE IS THE DIAMETER OF THE HOLE?
The diameter is 10 inches approximately – and we’re not certain where the hole is because we don’t really know where the downline came down. But we think it’s towards the edge of the circle.

OFF TO THE RIGHT IS THE SECOND SMALLER OBJECT AND THIS 10-INCH HOLE IS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LARGER CIRCLE IF YOU WERE EXTENDING A LINE OUT TO THE OTHER SECOND OBJECT?
Yeah.

WE NOW HAVE ANOMALIES THAT INCLUDE THIS HOLE. ARE THERE ANY OTHER HIGHLY STRANGE ANOMALIES THAT THE DIVERS DISCOVERED?
No, not like that, but the very angular, straight boxes and shapes and the walls and everything –
it is quite strange in my world.

IT SOUNDS AS IF ALL THE 90-DEGREE ANGLES AND THE STRAIGHT WALLS, THE MYSTERIOUS HOLE, THE FACT THAT THE LARGE 60-METERS ...
197-feet-diameter.
ON SOME SORT OF PEDESTAL – ALL OF THOSE ADD UP TO A LIKELIHOOD THAT YOU MIGHT BE DEALING WITH SOMETHING THAT IS AN ARTIFICIAL STRUCTURE.
Yeah, what we know today, it’s possible.”

Next Expedition by Sweden Ocean Explorer X Team
On July 20, 2012, Peter and his Sweden Ocean Explorer X Team plan a third expedition with again both Blue View sonar and Multi Beam sonar attached to the boat. It takes special data processing to assemble all the images and make sense of them, which is being done now on the second expedition before the third exploration in July. Their goal is to produce a clear 3-dimensional image of the whole large object and perhaps a 3-D image of the second smaller object that is some distance away.
